(Dept. of Cultural Heritage, St. Kitts, November 02, 2026): The integration of local heritage and identity into a culturally relevant St. Kitts and Nevis Alphabet Chart and a Cultural Colouring Book takes place with the launch of the educational material on Wednesday, November 4, 2026 at the Shadwell Great House at 10:30 am.
The Alphabet Chart and Colouring book were designed by the St. Kitts Department of Cultural Heritage, in partnership with the Ministry of Education’s Early Childhood Development Unit. The culturally-crafted learning material features plants, people, animals, foods and items that can be observed in the way of life of the society of St. Kitts and Nevis.
This Wednesday’s launch will include a keynote address by Minister responsible for the Department of Cultural Heritage, Honourable Samal Duggins, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Marine Resources, Entrepreneurship and Cooperatives, Sports and the Creative Economy.
Remarks will also be given by representatives from the Ministry of Education and Early Childhood Development Specialists.
Reclaiming the Educational Landscape
The newly created Alphabet Chart and Cultural Colouring Book replace Western learning examples with Kittitian and Nevisian cultural references, folklore, traditions, local plants, animals and practices. By including familiar elements into foundational learning tools, the initiative ensures that young students see their daily lives, families, and communities come to life inside the classroom.
Members of the press, educators, cultural practitioners, and community stakeholders are invited to attend and bear witness to this landmark educational milestone.
