Basseterre, Saint Kitts, November 04, 2026 (SKNIS): The Government of Saint Kitts and Nevis has taken another significant step towards modernising public service delivery and improving the business environment with the official launch of its Business Licence Reform Initiative, introducing a new digital platform designed to streamline the business licence application process and make government services more accessible to entrepreneurs.
The initiative, launched on Wednesday, November 04, 2026, at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort, represents a major advancement in the government’s ongoing efforts to reduce administrative barriers, improve efficiency and create a more business-friendly environment across the Federation.
A key component of the reform is the transfer of responsibility for the business licence application process from the Ministry of Finance to the Ministry of Small Business and Entrepreneurship. Under this new arrangement, the Ministry of Small Business and Entrepreneurship will assume a leading role in facilitating business applications and guiding prospective entrepreneurs through the process.
Addressing the significance of the initiative, Minister of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT), the Honourable Konris Maynard, emphasised that the launch represents far more than the introduction of another website or software application. He described it as an expansion of opportunities and a meaningful investment in making it easier for citizens to establish businesses and pursue their entrepreneurial ambitions.
“We are not just here to launch just another website or introduce another piece of software. We are opening another door to opportunity,” Minister Maynard stated, highlighting the government’s commitment to ensuring that public systems are designed around the needs and aspirations of the people.
At the centre of the initiative is a newly introduced digital portal that will bring together information from relevant referral agencies, documentation requirements and processing timelines in one centralised platform. Applicants will be able to submit applications online, monitor their progress at each stage, track the status of submitted documents and schedule appointments.
The new portal can be accessed at businesslicenceskn.gov.kn, providing prospective business owners with a convenient and centralised avenue to begin and manage their business licence applications.
The platform is intended to eliminate much of the inconvenience traditionally associated with accessing government services, including travelling between multiple government offices, enduring lengthy waiting periods, completing repeated paperwork and making frequent follow-up visits.
He further stressed the importance of placing citizens at the centre of the country’s digital transformation, noting that the traditional process of accessing government services has often resulted in unnecessary delays, additional expenses and uncertainty for individuals seeking to establish small businesses.
The new platform, Minister Maynard explained, provides a common management tool that will allow government agencies to coordinate business applications more effectively, while positioning the Ministry of Small Business and Entrepreneurship to play a more active role in facilitating business registration and supporting entrepreneurs.
The Business Licence Reform Initiative signals a continued commitment to building a public service that is responsive to the needs of its citizens while creating an environment in which businesses can be established, developed and positioned to thrive.
