Basseterre, Saint Kitts, March 18, 2026 (PMO) – During a media appearance this week, Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew reaffirmed his Government’s unwavering commitment to national development, highlighting a series of transformative projects that are actively reshaping communities and expanding economic opportunities across St. Kitts and Nevis.
Specifically, the Prime Minister outlined significant progress being made in key areas including education, water security, agriculture, healthcare, and infrastructure, all forming part of a broader, coordinated national development strategy.
Addressing the long-anticipated redevelopment of Basseterre High School, Dr. Drew made it clear that the project is no longer a promise, but a reality under active execution.
“This Labor administration is now into construction of the Basseterre High School… we are now ready to move into full construction,” the Prime Minister stated, noting the significance of this milestone, particularly following years of delay. “This is the first time we are seeing significant work being done to make sure that the Basseterre High School is being built”.
The Prime Minister also pointed to major advancements in water infrastructure, including the commissioning of the desalination plant, which has already begun delivering tangible benefits to communities across the island. For the first time in decades, a significant portion of the country is moving toward reliable, round-the-clock water access.

“Had we not done it, the water situation in Saint Kitts will be much worse. When we are finished in the next two months, 70% of the country, 60, 70% of the country will have 24 hour water, first time in decades,” the Prime Minister said.
In agriculture, Dr. Drew underscored the rapid progress of the Greenhouse Village Initiative, describing it as a modern and strategic approach to strengthening food security and boosting local production.

The Prime Minister also provided updates on the new national hospital project, noting that critical preparatory work is actively underway.
These initiatives are complemented by ongoing investments in housing, renewable energy, and community infrastructure, all of which are contributing to job creation and increased economic activity across the Federation.
Prime Minister Drew stressed that these developments are not isolated efforts, but part of a comprehensive and forward-looking national vision.
The Government remains focused on delivering tangible results that improve the quality of life for citizens, while positioning the Federation for long-term growth and sustainability.
