Month-long programme under the theme “Our People, Our Communities, Our Future: Reimagining Tourism Together” runs through October 26
Basseterre, St. Kitts (02 October 2026) — The Ministry of Tourism have officially launched Tourism Awareness Month 2026, a national programme of community, school and industry engagements running through the month of October. The month was formally opened at the Ministry of Tourism’s press conference on Thursday, October 1.
This year’s observance is held under the theme “Our People, Our Communities, Our Future: Reimagining Tourism Together.” It affirms a simple principle: tourism in St. Kitts is strongest when the people who live here understand it, shape it and share in its rewards.
The programme moves deliberately beyond the hotel and the cruise pier. Over four weeks it will reach classrooms, congregations, villages and the industry’s own workforce, inviting citizens of every age to see their place in the Federation’s leading economic sector.

“The people of St. Kitts are our tourism,” said the Minister of Tourism, Hon. Marsha T. Henderson. “Visitors come for the beaches and the mountain, and they go home talking about the taxi driver who gave them a history lesson on the island main road, and the vendor who made sure they tasted her johnny cakes before they left. Every one of us is part of that welcome, whether we work in the industry or simply live here.”
“This month we are going into the schools, the churches and the villages, and we are going to listen as much as we speak,” Minister Henderson continued. “I want the fisherman in Dieppe Bay and the child in the classroom to know that this industry belongs to them, and that their ideas will help decide where it goes next. When tourism does well, every community should feel it. So come out, take part, and let us build the future of our tourism together.”
Residents, schools, community groups and industry partners are encouraged to take part in the month’s activities and to follow the Kittitian Heartbeat’s social channels for event details and updates.
Tourism Awareness Month is observed each year to deepen public understanding of the industry and its contribution to national life. The 2026 edition asks a larger question: not only what tourism does for St. Kitts, but what the people of St. Kitts want their tourism to become.
