Basseterre, Saint Kitts, October 09, 2026 (SKNIS): The Joshua Obadiah Williams Primary School in Molineux is nearing completion, with approximately 90 percent of the construction project finished, paving the way for the new, modernised educational facility to open in January 2027.
On Thursday, October 08, Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Education, the Honourable Dr. Geoffrey Hanley, toured the near-completed school to assess progress and receive an update on the remaining works ahead of its anticipated reopening.
During the tour, officials from the Public Works Department briefed Dr. Hanley on the scope of the project, highlighting the major construction milestones achieved and the final details to be addressed before the facility is ready to welcome students and staff.

Officials indicated that the main structure is complete, including the roofing and painting, with the remaining works being largely cosmetic, involving minor installations and finishing touches. Among the outstanding tasks is the installation of sinks and basins in the upstairs bathrooms, while toilets and showers have already been installed.
The school also incorporates modern construction features, including metal decking used throughout the building’s roofing system. This system serves as an alternative to conventional steel reinforcement in concrete slabs and provides fire-resistant properties, contributing to the durability and safety of the facility.
Acting Prime Minister Hanley expressed satisfaction with the progress made, describing the school as a modern educational institution equipped to support contemporary teaching and learning.

“This school will be one of our newest primary schools with the technology that we were longing for, in regard to smart whiteboards in all of the classrooms,” Dr. Hanley stated.
He further highlighted additional amenities incorporated into the design, including dedicated space for the deputy principal and a cafeteria, noting that the upgraded facility will provide students and teachers with a more comfortable, safe and conducive environment for learning.

The acting prime minister also commended the contractors, engineers from the Public Works Department, labourers and other stakeholders who have contributed to the project. He specifically acknowledged the role of the Molineux community, whose members helped to safeguard and monitor the development throughout the construction process.
“I want to thank all who have been working so tirelessly to ensure that this project comes to completion,” Dr. Hanley said.
With the major construction works completed and the project now in its final stages, the Joshua Obadiah Williams Primary School is moving closer to welcoming its students and teachers back to a renewed facility designed to support educational excellence and the future development of the nation’s children.
