Weather Bulletin
A Tropical Storm watch is still in effect for St. Kitts and Nevis. A tropical
storm watch means that tropical storm or developing tropical storm conditions
pose a possible threat to the specified area, in this case, within 18 to 24 hours.
At 11 am or 1500z the centre of Tropical Storm Isaac was located near latitude
15.0 north, longitude 54.7 west or about 554 miles east-southeast of St. Kitts
and Nevis.
Isaac is still moving towards the west but with a slight increase in forward
speed at 17 miles per hour. This general motion with a slight decrease in
forward speed is expected to continue through to the weekend.
Maximum sustained winds remain near 60 mph with higher gusts. Gradual
weakening is forecast during the next 72 hours. On the forecast track, the centre
is forecast to move across the central Lesser Antilles and into the eastern
Caribbean Sea on Thursday.
The estimated minimum central pressure is 1000mb or 29.53 inches.
Tropical storm force winds now extend up to 175 miles from the centre.
Based upon the latest position and analysis, Tropical Storm Isaac continues to
slowly weaken. The centre is projected to pass roughly just over a hundred
miles south of the Leeward Islands. This means that the strongest winds of
Isaac should remain south of the Leeward Islands. However, cloudiness, heavy
shower and thunderstorm activity in the northern portion of the system should
be expected across the Leewards late Wednesday into Thursday.
Rainfall amount of up to an inch is possible across St. Kitts and Nevis during
the passage of Isaac.
Seas are expected to begin deteriorating by late Wednesday; therefore warnings
for mariners and sea bathers have been issued.
All residents are urged to continue to monitor the progress of Isaac as it
approaches the eastern Caribbean.
The next advisory will be at 5pm
Wednesday, June 24
